Join this full-day, small-group tour that combines a visit to Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site and a Third Reich walking tour of Munich. First, visit Dachau, the first Nazi concentration camp in Germany. Tour it with a licensed professional guide, and listen to the stories of how it served for a model of all the other camps that came after it. Then, return to Munich to learn about its association with the Nazi party, and get insight into this dark chapter of Germany's past.
On the morning of your tour, meet your guide at 9am in central Munich's Marienplatz. Then, set off by public transit to visit Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site about 20 minutes away. Spend three hours exploring the memorial site with your small group, asking your licensed guide plenty of questions. Learn how the camp system came into being, and why the Nazis opened Dachau as the prototype "model" camp. Honor the memory of the prisoners held, and murdered, there as you hear about their plight in the camp system.
In the afternoon, return to Munich and take the opportunity to purchase some refreshments before joining back up with your guide for your walking tour of Munich, which focuses on the Nazi period but also gives an overview of contemporary Munich with tips for places to visit during your stay.
As you walk by important historical sites, learn about Hitler, his association with Munich, and the rise of the Nazi party. See where Hitler joined the German Workers Party, the building where the SS was founded, and the route of the Beer Hall Putsch. Hear about the German resistance and the White Rose Movement. Visit the building where the Munich Agreement of 1938 was signed; and Königsplatz, where the Nazis conducted rallies to impress foreign dignitaries.
When your tour concludes, you'll have the option of being escorted to the main train station in Munich or remaining in central Munich to continue sightseeing independently.
